In 2012, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued strict standards concerning the manufacturing and sales of baby cribs in order to prevent infant accidents. In my quest to combine safety, accessibility, and style in infant sleep solutions, under the new standards, I reached out to my friend and business partner, Peter Kayser of KayserBetten GmbH & Co. KG based in Dormark, Germany. Since 1980, the company has been crafting high-rail cribs catered to the European populace. Together with his associate, Torsten Knappenberg, they were open to collaboratively pioneering a crib model tailored for the U.S. market. The manufacturing prowess of KayserBetten, certified under the rigorous standards of ISO 13485, employs a dedicated team of skilled designers and carpenters. This team embarked on creating several prototypes, which were rigorously tested by SGS Internation, a benchmark institution for independent product safety certifications. Our primary goal was to align with the comprehensive safety guidelines mandated in the United States.

Our collaborative efforts culminated in the creation of Gertie Crib, featuring an innovative door-opening mechanism, distinguishing it as the most accessible crib option available today. Beyond safety and ease of access, the Gertie Crib stands as a statement piece, seamlessly integrating into any nursery decor with its elegance. Crafted from solid beech wood procured from forests with sustainable credentials, the Gertie Crib's production process remains eco-conscious, backed by stringent environmental oversight by German regulatory bodies.
